Dr. Annika Selzer
IT Law and Interdisciplinary Privacy Research

Dr. iur. Annika Selzer is Head of the research department "IT Law and Interdisciplinary Privacy Research" at Fraunhofer SIT and Coordinator of the research area "Legal Aspects of Privacy and IT Security" at the National Research Center for Applied Cybersecurity ATHENE.
Her research focuses on IT law, particularly the interdisciplinary interplay between legal and technical aspects of data protection in the context of emerging technologies. Further focal points of her work include the adequacy of data protection measures from legal, technical, and economic perspectives, as well as legal aspects of digitalization and the regulatory framework for offensive cybersecurity research.
In addition, she is a mentor at the Digital Hub Cybersecurity, a lecturer at Technische Universität Darmstadt and the University of Augsburg, and the editor of the first GDPR commentary specifically written for students and non-lawyers (2nd edition 2026).
She also organizes the recurring workshop "Privacy and Security at Large", which takes place as part of the annual GI conference. The event brings together a diverse range of stakeholders to discuss the appropriate implementation of security and data protection requirements, taking into account the opportunities and risks of new technologies through a holistic perspective that bridges computer science, law, and economics.
